And then January...

Elinor's crawling has continued to improve. She will now go from room to room seeking her mother, will search for any little thing to put in her mouth, will go off in pursuit of Lottie's tail... All over! It's very exciting, but mixed with the ability to pull herself up and get access to anything within reach, it will require us to be a bit more conscientious... But it is very exciting.

We also just spent three days at the coast (Pacific City) with two of Elinor's favorites, Ryan and Suzi! It was a lot of fun and it was great to get out of town! It rained pretty much the whole time, but Elinor and I did make it down to the beach once. The are some pictures (click here!) at our The Beach Flickr Page, though they are also mixed in with some Elinor-free pictures, so watch out! Here is a sample...

In other excitement, two days ago we started the "let Elinor get herself to sleep" trick. That is the one where, once she falls asleep, we put her to bed and when she wakes up (which she always does when we put her to bed) we just let her do whatever she needs to do to fall asleep. Of course, it is sad because she gets very mad and makes a lot of noise, but it gets easier for her. The first night was terrible and we kept going in to see her, the second night we let her be and while it took a good while for her to calm down and fall asleep, she stayed asleep for 9 hours! Which is something that has never happened, and she was in a dandy happy mood upon waking. It worked out alright, I'd say. Then tonight, back at home, she only had a fit for less than 10 minutes before falling asleep. And her fit wasn't too bad anyway. Anyway. After spending the last 8 months having to get up anywhere between 2 and 5 times per night to comfort her back to sleep (which generally took 20 minutes to an hour each time), it seems like a great relief to be doing this.

December

Ah, December! Elinor's first Christmas!

Though we kept it pretty low-key this year, we actually had a nice time spending the Eve at Grandma Ginny's and on Christmas Elinor opened some presents! She didn't quite get the sense of opening the wrapping paper, but I think she got the idea of what was going on...

She also went to Laurelhurst Park With Sarah and Frances for her first night-time duck feeding! In fact, her first duck feeding at all... Sadly, she slept through the whole thing, but I did get a shot of Sarah and Frances making some duck friends.
